First off, I really appreciate all of the support off- and online from many of you. It does mean a lot.

Unfortunately, my boss has made it worse since I told him I'm resigning. In the last 48 hours, he has been changing schedules and screwing this around.

We had a new work schedule that started July 1. However, most of my on-call duties would start in September (after I would have left). Since that is not considered "fair", I agreed to have some on-call duties moved into my last two months. Because of some of my colleagues were not being responsible, we had gaps in our coverage scheduled which pissed off my boss even more. So he started the new work schedule 2 weeks early. Of course, that requires me to cancel everything else scheduled in those 2 weeks which again pisses off more people.

But what is frustrating me and many others is his lack of listening. Since it difficult making changes so quickly, I suggested that we use as planned in July but I'd help cover in June in the mean time. He didn't care and basically told everyone to deal with it.

Then he made another last minute change but he contracted himself on the emails. Even after I brought it up, he still contracted himself. When I pointed out with email quotes, he didn't bother to respond anymore.

Finally, when I asked for help because of these new changes, he told me to be creative and essential deal with the added work load.

This is my first time dealing with "management" and now realize what other people have to deal with. You have my sympathizes. Its amazing how my friends at work all know that my boss is brilliant in his field of interest but an awful manager.

Wow, this guy sounds like a total ass. And he wonders why you're leaving. :/

You definitely deserve a better work environment than that. Hang in there, Poomie. *hugs*

To be honest, I doubt he knows why I'm leaving. We never spoke about it beyond "I got a better opportunity". I was trying really hard to not bad mouth the place.

that's tough, man... you give him months to prepare, so he reacts by eliminating that transition period and rushing everyone into new situations... I know you'll make it to the end just fine ^^ but watch out for his "all these problems are the fault of the guy that's leaving" excuses, they'll be coming up soon

I never thought that I could be the scapegoat for future problems. I'll def keep that in mind. Thanks.

I feel your pain. I've had bosses like that before, and they make you not want to get out of bed in the morning *hugs*

Thankfully I have not had any bosses that where too bad. The poor boss I had recently (at the university) I just ignored and did my own thing. Make sure you talk with HR about him before you leave (HR term is exit interview). He may simply be in the need of training and management development, not everyone is a born leader. How ever it does sound like he is an ass and HR needs to know about that too. 'Just deal with it' is not an acceptable management style. And when you do phrase it as you are concerned for the Dept/Org and want to help them not that he is an ass and thats it.

earendil31 hit it on the head, his knee jerk reaction of rushing the changes in is not something that I would have done, they may have been a need to accelerate but you have given them ample time to work things out and just changing things now before the process was ready is unwise. Asking for clarification on contradicting info is also not something he should blow up about. Sounds like he is taking your leaving personally? Might be time to talk w/ upper management also before he pins any of these transition problems on you, you could have given him 2 weeks...

*hugs*

Well, the upper management/administration already knows all about his problems with management and leadership. There have already been multiple complaints made to the higher ups about his conduct with hospital staff, resident doctors, patients, and patients' families. He's still the boss because he has international name recognition. If he didn't have that, he'd be long gone.

I wish I could have given 2 weeks, but my contract says I have to give them a 3 month warning.

Congrats on the new job... Sorry the old one is giving you such hassle... I wish I could offer additional advice besides, good luck!

I made the mistake of mentioning plans to move to an employer I thought had my back once too far in advance...they wound up laying me off 3 months early early because "I was leaving anyway" and I had to scramble to find something temporary in the interim (which paid less and totally fucked with my plans). Since then I have adhered to a strict 2-week policy.

Is there anything in your contract that protects you once you've given your 3-month notice? Or are they free to just give you hell any way they can think of?

Technically, they can drop me immediately if I lose my privileges to work at the place (like doing something stupid). I could try to claim harassment of some sort and get them to end the contract early.
